Xgopher is an X window system client interface to the Gopher information system. Xgopher provides access to tremendous amounts of information which are gathered from either a local or a remote system running a Gopher server. The source of the information is generally transparent, with data supplied from world-wide locations as easily as from a local on-campus server. The Gopher information system software is from the University of Minnesota. It is used by over 50 sites in North America and dozens more around the world. There are Gopher servers for (at least) Unix, MacIntosh, and NeXT machines. Clients are available for Unix (curses), Mac, PC (DOS), and NeXT hosts, as well as this X version. Xgopher requires X11 Releases 4 or 5, the X toolkit intrinsics, and the Athena widget set. For more information about Xgopher, please contact Allan Tuchman (a-tuchman@uiuc.edu). For other information about Gopher, e-mail the Gopher development group at gopher@boombox.micro.umn.edu. The Gopher software is available by anonymous ftp from boombox.micro.umn.edu in the directory pub/gopher.
